Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco have officially confirmed the signing of Folarin Balogun from Premier League side Arsenal. The Principality club will reportedly pay the Gunners a fee around the 40-million-euro mark, with the deal also reportedly having a 17.5% sell-on clause for the London outfit. Balogun has put pen to paper a five-year deal which will keep him at Stade Louis II till 2028.
The 22/23 season saw Balogun go on loan to Ligue 1 outfit Reims and he scored 22 goals in 39 appearances for them across all competitions. Balogun’s league goal tally saw him finish as the fourth highest scorer in France behind Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette and Jonathan David. Nearly half of Reims’ league goals last season came from him, and they finished 11th in the league.
Balogun was born in New York and was capped by England atvarious youth levels before switching allegiance to the USMNT earlier this summer. Before going to Reims, he also had an earlier loan stint at Middlesbrough.
Monaco finished 6th in Ligue 1 last season but failed to qualify for Europe. They have already played three league games this season, beating Clermont and Strasbourg and drawing 3-3 away at Nantes.
